Too early for school?
My son is 3 ½ years old. He is currently enrolled as a nursery student at his sister’s school. He used to be excited to go to school, but after a while he started to get bored I should say…
Everyone was saying that it was because it was still too early for him to go to school, that he wasn’t old enough, the usual age children go to school here in our place is 4 years old, so most of his classmates were 4 year olds. But I really didn’t believe this to be, my son is very smart, at his age, he can already identify colors, count to ten and recognize letters and even words. We decided to send him to school since at home he will be the only child left when everyone else goes to school, he’s the youngest in the house and the child after him is his sister who’s in grade 1 already, and he seemed interested in schooling.
We started the second semester of school, so they had a week of vacation time and now my son refuses to go to school, every morning since school re-started we try to wake him up but he will just throw tantrums and fits, we stopped waking him up and every time we try to talk to him about going back to school, all he says is he doesn’t want to go to school anymore. Even if we encourage him, tell him his teachers, his classmates miss him or whatever, but nothing seems to work, he’s firm in the decision that he doesn’t want to go to school anymore.
He seemed so interested in going to school before, I wonder what happened. Is he really too young to go to school, was I wrong in assuming that he can make it despite his young age? Why did he lose interest? Didn’t they do anything interesting in school that can keep him hooked?
